wow. what a bunch of bull.

i wish he'd stop calling men and women chicks and dudes. what's so wrong with a feminine esthetic and emotional music, and since when are young men the only innovators in this world? ridiculous.

That guy is a weenis! I think he has a little to much testosterone. Maybe he is gay and is trying to get guys in his church.

hmmm...Emily. Why did you put this on your blog? Was it to let me know that this is the time in my life where I should be searching for my gun-shooting-punch-a-guy-in-the-face-innovator soul mate? Point taken, although you might want to reconsider the "pastel green" of your mixer, because that does not create a male inviting atmosphere, but I guess they don't belong in the kitchen anyway.

While I don't agree with some of the things this guy says (who is he anyway? is this the head pastor at Mars Hill?), I do think he makes some interesting points. Particularly, from statistics I've heard in the past, young men are missing from the church. Westmont alone is a prime example of the church being dominated by women and one must ask what about our church is attracting more women than men?

Every church caters to a certain crowd. Manhattan churches are catering to single career driven types. Our church in Sac is full of older people and families. Urban churches try to draw ethnic diversity. I sorta wonder-- is it bad that there are churches catering to the young male demographic? (I don't think I'd like to be going to this guys church since I'm annoyed by his dudes and chicks references among other things, but, I'm still glad his church exists).

I'd love to see more men our age that love God, follow God, serve God and want to be leaders in their communities, businesses, homes and churches. Sadly, I think it's lacking.

thank you for bringing up issues like this one in a way that encourages thoughtfulness and honesty - without trying to sway our responses. i really admire that about you. i'm about as close to boiling point as i ever get, and so am not going to say much right now but save my energy for a later post of my own.
i've never believed in what mark driscoll has to say about gender roles, and have no respect for him as a pastor of the gospel. when jesus told nicodemus that he had come because God loves ALL the world, it would not seem to follow that God had only gifted SOME of us. driscoll's arguments that 'churches without young men could not be innovative, because they have no innovators' makes me curious if he has had his eyes closed to women all his life, or if he only chooses to surround himself with docile women. to deny the gifts of a follower of christ - to tell an innovative, dynamic woman who is an excellent leader (of whom i know many) is not only ignorant, it is sinful.
